Travelers who are thinking about visiting China for 3-4 days and confused about where to go, Kunming is the best place for them to visit. It is the capital of Yunnan province in China. Kunming usually provides tremendous interest and scenario to the visitors. In this article, you will have better ideas of places where to visit in Kunming to make your journey enjoyable.


1. Dianchi Lake

One of the most famous and popular lakes of Kunming is Dianchi Lake that is located in the southwest part of Kunming city. Several attractions are found in this lake like Yunnan Ethnic Villages, Daguan Park, Baiyukou Park, Haigeng Bank, Kuanyin Hill, etc.  Tourists may observe the customs and rituals of the local people being near this lake. It is considered as 6th the largest lake of fresh water in China with an area of 340 SQ KM. Visitors can enjoy the best view of the lake is from Western Hill. 


2. Stone Forest

The stone forest is another notable destination in Kunming featuring Greater & Lesser Stone Forests - also known as the Lizijing Stone Forest, Naigu Stone Forest; Zhiyun Cave,  Lake Chang, Lake Yue, Dadie Waterfall, Qifeng Cave. It is situated in Shilin Yi Autonomous country almost 90KM far from Kunming City. The tall rocks seem to originate from the ground in the manner of spikes, with many looking like terrified trees thereby creating the illusion of a forest made of stone.

 

3. Western Hills

The Western Hill also known as Sleeping Buddhah Hill is located close to Dianchi Lake. It is formed as such a shape that appears to be a giant sleeping buddhah. It is also provided another name Sleeping Beauty Hills since the view is seen at a glance from a particular distance just like a beautiful young lady is lying beside Dianchi Lake with her face upward and her hair is rambling into water. The outline of her face, chest and legs are seen very clearly.

 

4. Jiuxiang Caves & Scenic Area

Jiuxiang Scenic Area is situated in Jiuxiang Yi about 90KM away from central Kunming. The unique karst cave, mountains, rivers deep valleys make it famous as tourist spot. There are mainly five major attractions to visit like- Diehong Bridge, Sanjiao Cave, Dasha Dam, Alulong, Mingyue Lake. It is a must visit place while travelling to Kunming.

 

5. Flower and Bird Market

Kunming is very much popular for the beauty of Spring that makes it called Spring City. The Flower and Bird Market is the largest, most attractive shopping market where spring reigns all year. It was built long ago and has gradually been a comprehensive tourist attractions for leisure, shopping and trading. Besides, many western restaurants are built up at the beautiful well preserved old building within the market. Tourists may enjoy a cup of tea or coffee during their visit to the market.

 

6. Golden Temple

The Golden Temple is another familiar tourist attraction in Kunming. It is located on the top of Mingfeng Shan. It is considered as the home of Taoist Taige Palace that is also known as the biggest copper temple of China.

A three-story high bell Tower is built-in 1984. The hillside around the Golden Temple thrives with pine trees, evergreens, hardy cypresses, and a mass of plants.

 

7. Yuantong Temple

Yuantong Temple is one of the most familiar Buddhist temples in Kunming that is situated in a dwindling ordinary despair and in recent years it has been expanded. There are two caves behind the main hall of the temple- The yougu and Chaoying. The caves breeze far into the secretive pits of the mountain, and, were once the home of dragons. In the Nan Zhao Kingdom, a monk constructed a temple beside the cliff to tempt the dragons. When the temple was devastated, he built a walkway on which to make magic on the dragons.

 

8. Bamboo Temple (Qiongzhu Si)

Another tourist attraction in Kunming is the Bamboo Temple that is situated in the forested Yu’an Mountains, northwest of Kunming. Tough the temple was first integrated the Song Dynasty (960–1279), but it was renovated and modernized several times in its almost 1000 years’ history. The Bamboo Temple is also known as (Qiongzhu Si) in Chinese, which refers to a special kind of bamboo used to make canes for monks. With its exceptional fundamental system and rich creative decorations, the very beauty of a traditional Chinese temple architecture can be enjoyed here.

 

9. Kunming City Museum

Kunming City Museum is known as a historical museum in Kunming City, Yunnan, China. It is smaller than the Yunnan Provincial Museum, but the most notable exhibit of this museum is about the history of the city. Other features comprise a dinosaur exhibit and a rotating exhibition space that grips anything from history to photo and art exhibitions. A photography exhibition was hosted in 2015 with pictures of Kunming in the early 20th century.

 

10. Dongchuan Red Soil Land

Dongchuan Red Soil Land is an attraction where tourist may visit all around the year. The ocean of flowers can be experienced in Spring with a colorful scenery. As well as A beautiful wave od Cornfields are seen and it will get wet in the rainy season. In autumn it is seen as the "fairyland on earth" and in winter the landscape isn't less remarkable but the highways could be icy and it might be tough to get there. We usually suggest to travel the area in late spring / early summer (April - June) and in autumn after the peak of the rainy season
